Platform Extension
After successfully installing piles for the new Orangutan Forest and Sealion Enclosure we were asked to design a solution to provide support piles in a lake to facilitate the extending of an existing viewing platform.
Clearly our piling rigs couldn’t operate in water 2m deep, nor could we pour concrete foundations so we devised a system of steel piles and steel top plates.
Using our air driven piling hammers, lifted into each position by a crane and with our operators standing on a safety platform provided by the main contractor. We installed a grid of piles and steel top plates in the lake almost 10.0m out from the existing platform. These piles and top plates creating a series of support points onto which the main contractor attached the new steel platform structure.
A very challenging project in terms of safety and engineering completed within programme. The use of air driven piling hammers removed any chance of fuel spills etc. and subsequent contamination of the lake and surrounding wildlife.
