Annandale Distillery - Larsen Belfast

ANNANDALE DISTILLERY

Dumfries and Galloway, SCOTLAND

Established in 1835, Annandale Distillery underwent a £10.5m refurbishment in 2011.

The new owner’s plans called for the joining of two buildings (the Mash House and Still House) to make one larger production area.

The floor level and foundations of the Still House were almost 3.5m higher than the Mash House so traditional underpinning was required to increase the depth of the foundations in the Still House so its floor level could be reduced to match the floor level of the Mash House.

Based on our previous underpinning work to a listed property in Edinburgh we were approached and asked to design and construct an underpinning scheme to facilitate the works described above.

Over a two-month period we underpinned and reduced floor levels in a series of three 1.2m deep excavations until the two buildings had floors at the same level.  During the works, we battled large boulder obstruction and fluctuating water levels whilst ensuring the stability of the existing structures around us.

PROJECT SPECIFICATION

120 L/M of traditional underpinning in bays 1.2m x 1.0m x 0.6m.

Over 400 cubic meters of clay removed during underpinning and floor level reduction.
